I would say I'm incredibly spontaneous. I don't ever really plan anything. An idea may pop in my head at that moment and I say sure why not let's do it. This often gets me into some hairy situations. I'm genuine and I have ADHD.

Career Highlights

  • Creating the Aloha Project because it has opened so many doors for me that I never thought were possible.
  • Backpacking the entire Ko'olau Summit Trail. It was something that I told myself I wasn't going to stop trying until I completed it, or it killed me. Luckily I completed it first. It's only successfully been completed by one other person and it is the most dangerous under the radar hike in the United States for sure.
  • Being invited by Shane Dorian to document his trip to Tahiti in 2013. Those waves were the kind that you draw on your notebook and dream about as a kid. Shane has always since the day I met him been someone I aspire to be like. He is the most kind hearted, rad, goes 0-100 individual I have ever met. His family is insane too, by far some of the nicest people ever.
  • Greg Long inviting me to go back with him to Cortes Bank and face his demons. This episode recently aired on ESPN 2. Greg and I have become better friends over the years and he is another individual who is a great role model. He also is extremely methodical, which I could probably try and be more a lot of the time.
  • Starting my film career shooting everyone back in Santa Cruz. If it wasn't for Kyle Buthman, Austin Smith-Ford, Matt Myers, Darshan Gooch, Brian Forcum, Nat Young, Josh Mulcoy, Bud Freitas, Jesse Columbo, Ratboy and everyone else there I would be absolutely nothing. They were the foundation of what launched me into the surf industry. There are too many good times to recall.

HOW DOES MUSIC PLAY A ROLE IN YOUR LIFE?

Music is the fire that keeps me going everyday. Is that cliché? Sound too much like an advertisement ? Haha...If you ask anyone of my friends they will tell you I quote song lyrics all day long. Whatever I'm doing, if there isn't a song playing on my speakers it's playing in my head.

WHERE HAVE YOUR ADVENTURES TAKEN YOU?

My travels and adventures in life have taken me to many many layovers in airport terminals with a lot of time to sit and reflect. I have crazy peers and friends and they are constantly pushing me out of my comfort zone. You never want to be the guy who throws in the towel first, so you try to either maintain at their pace or one up them. I've been fortunate enough to have a career that allowed me to travel and see the world. Not the world as the world would like us to see. A lot of the surf trips I go on, we're in incredibly remote places living in feral boats or villages. You're taken in by these families and they think you're a rock star and give you what little they have to give. It's humbling, because we are not rock stars. We're just average people who are chasing our dreams of finding that next adventure, that next perfect wave, that next peak. I'm extremely grateful and fortunate that companies believe in my vision.
